GS YUASA liefert ein sogenanntes E3 Solution System, ein regeneratives Energiespeichersystem mit 2000kW Leistung, an die Hino Transformer-Station der Tokyo Tama Intercity Monorail Co., Ltd. Bei einem Netzausfall ist dieses Notfall-Evakuierungssystem in der Lage, die Schienenbahn mithilfe einer stationären Batterie zur nächstgelegenen Station zu befördern, damit die Fahrgäste die Wagen sicher verlassen können. Ein Notlauf-Test hat dies im Vorfeld der Inbetriebnahme bestätigt.

Das E3 Solution System von GS YUASA besteht aus zwei verschiedenen Typen von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien: Die High Performance-Batterie LIM25H-8 mit außerordentlichen Lade- und Entladecharakteristiken dient der Aufnahme der Energie, die beim Abbremsen des Zuges frei wird. Im Normalbetrieb kommt sie zum Einsatz, um Spannungsschwankungen des Netzes auszugleichen. Die Lithium-Ionen Batterie LIM50EN-12 ist insbesondere darauf ausgelegt, eine bestimmte Leistung über einen längeren Zeitraum abzugeben. Tritt ein Notfall ein, versorgt sie den Personenzug so lange mit Energie, bis dieser im Rahmen einer Notfahrt die nächstgelegene Station erreicht hat.

Einmalig in Japan ist die Funktion, dass bei einer vollständigen Entladung der Notfallbatterie auf die High-Performance-Zellen umgeschaltet werden kann, um deren Kapazität für die Fortsetzung oder eine zusätzliche Notfahrt zu nutzen. Tests des Systems haben ergeben, dass mit beiden Batterien zusammen Notfahrten bis zu 20 km bei einer Geschwindigkeit von kleiner/gleich 15km/h möglich sind. Durchgeführt wurden die Probeläufe mit Personenzügen bestehend aus vier Waggons. Die Gebrauchsdauer des Systems ist dabei auf 15 Jahre ausgelegt.

Lithium-Ion Batterien von GS YUASA eignen sich für den Einsatz in unterschiedlichsten Anwendungen. Neben Automotive-Anwendungen werden sie in verschiedenen industriellen Applikationen, aber auch in Massenenergiespeicherlösungen eingesetzt. Prädestiniert sind die Lithium-Ionen Zellen zudem für Spezialeinsätze, wie in führerlosen Fahrsystemen oder Hybridkränen.
